Eric Leroy Adams (born September 1, 1960) is the Borough
President of Brooklyn, New York City.
Adams served as an officer in the New York City Transit Police and
then the New York City Police Department, for 22 years. In 1994,
though endorsed by the Nation of Islam, he was defeated in the
Democratic primary for a New York Congressional seat. From 2006 to
2013 he was a Democratic State Senator in the New York Senate
(representing the 20th Senate District in Brooklyn). In November
2013, Adams was elected Brooklyn Borough President, the first
African-American to hold the position. In November 2017 he was
reelected. On January 1, 2022, Eric will officially be the Mayor of
New York City.
